Empowering the Sunshine Coast: A Vision for Sustainable Growth and Prosperity
In a world where financial constraints often dictate the pace and direction of development, we stand at a crossroads on the Sunshine Coast. Our commitment is to a different kind of progress—one that leverages the council’s “soft power” over its financial might. This approach is not about spending more; it's about influencing better. It's about fostering partnerships and encouraging growth that aligns with our unique environment and lifestyle, ensuring the prosperity that supports what makes the Coast truly remarkable.
The Power of Influence Over Financial Muscle
Many businesses prefer to operate in regions where the local government acts as a facilitator rather than a barrier. This philosophy does not imply a green light for unchecked development. On the contrary, it’s about promoting sustainable growth that respects our community's economic, environmental, and social fabric.
Our Commitment to Sustainable Policies
Our policies are designed with the community's heart and soul in mind, focusing on long-term benefits without imposing financial burdens. Here’s how we plan to make a difference:
Citizens' Committees: Forming these committees ensures your voice is heard in all significant council considerations, from inception to final decision. This policy enshrines transparency and accountability into the fabric of our governance.
Forensic Examination of Council Finances: We will conduct a thorough review of the $450 million borrowed by the council, scrutinizing how it was spent to ensure value and accountability.
New Economic Initiative Taskforce: This task force will shift the focus of the council's Economic Department towards attracting compatible industries that promise prosperity and job creation, aiming to retain our educated and skilled young people.
Western Sunshine Coast Economic Zone: By declaring this zone, we unlock the potential of our hinterland and rural areas, encouraging private investment and joint initiatives that harmonize with our local environment.
Sunshine Coast Housing Corporation: With council encouragement (but not financial support), this initiative will diversify housing types and locations, making affordable housing more accessible.
Infrastructure Advisory Board: This board will coordinate with various levels of government and private entities to secure grants and public-private partnership funds for essential infrastructure.
Sociological Impact Group: A dedicated team will study the long-term effects of urban densification, addressing challenges like parking shortages, unemployment, and the impact on local entrepreneurship.
Sustainable Strategies for a Thriving Coast
Food & Local Energy Strategy: We aim to establish security for essential resources, reducing imports and easing transport pressure.
Olympic Economic Working Group: This group will ensure the Olympic Games deliver immediate financial benefits and leave a lasting legacy for our community.
